For those unaware of what's been happening in Chicago. There are currently plans in place to start redeveloping a large area of Clark & Addison (Wrigleyville)by next year. Because of this many of the small business are going to be forced out.
Having lived in Chicago I can tell you that I hated Wrigleyville 6.5 months of the year (cubs season), BUT there is one reason I went there- iO. And now iO is on the chopping block. In its place will be a hotel, apartments and other chain retail stores.
There's a grass roots/cyber movement to stop these plans from moving forward. Since I look at places like iO as part of our extended improv family I thought improvisers here could join in that cause. It's as simple as joining the group below. If you want to email the alderman- awesome.
Now I know that iO will find a new home if this does happen (and possibly get a space with a much more reasonable rent thereby making iO more profitable, but that's not the point). The point is to stop the man from ruining one of the best areas of the city by tearing down the great Goose island and iconic home stage for many of our improv cousins.
