Hello all...

I'm Jim Karwisch.

I've been acting seriously since 1989 but I have been in my own world since I was born. I have experience as an actor, director, theatre coach, musician and techie, but something inside me wouldn't be satisfied till I came to Chicago and studied Improvisation.

Born in Atlanta GA, to which I will be returning in two weeks, I have done shows in 42 of the lower 48 states. I return now to teach theatre, be near my family, and to try to convince other Hotlantans to make the shift from shortform to long.

I have studied Improv with Charna Halpern, Jon Lutz, T.J. Jagodowski, Paul Grande, Bob Dassie, Miles Stroth, Liz Allen, Noah Gregoropolis (for about 15 minutes), Christina G. and I have seen just about every Chicago improv team in action.

I also did some work at the Playground with a team called Sandbox Bullies.

I now return to traditional theatre, and I will attempt to apply Improv to theatre and vice versa.

Jim

Didn't know this thread existed, so . . .

Dan Izzo here. I teach at the Annoyance, Second City, and Columbia College. I am the coordinator of the Annoyance Training Center. Currently, I am the director of Teenage Sports Parade (coming soon to the Live Bait). I am also the Director of Black Ops for the Conspiracy Theater Co.

I perform with the Guitars that Ate Detroit and Mister Burt Reynolds.

I've worked with Funny Outfit in Kansas City (creating the improv form known as the Big Gay Thing), and was an instructor at 6:The US Improv Festival.

I have a dog. Her name is Shirley, and she's adorable.

I was born in 1968, graduate law school in 1992, got married in 1996, fired in 1997, and divorced in 2000.

OK, it took me 3 months, but here it is

I was born in Vermont, went to college in Boston, moved to Atlanta in 92 for work (and love, but that didn't work out too good).
I started acting in ATL (for some reason there was a shortage of male actors) and in 96 I did a show at Whole World Theatre, which was an improv theatre doing scripted stuff on the side. I took their classes, and then joined their "farm team" for a year in 97. The farm was foreclosed on, I guess, but I had money saved up from my crap bank job and I used it to move to Chicago, so I could keep studying. Finished 2nd City last August, and was on Sidewalk Ends at IO before its death. I've been on Fashion Bug at IO for over a year now. Hard to believe.

newbie yeah!

Moved here this spring from Northern Indiana. Enjoying so much improv and all the fun things to do in Chicago. I'll tell you more when I'm doing more.

Artful Dodger
I don't believe we've been introduced

:D

My name is Zohar and I'm an improvaholic. on July 7th I will have graduation performances for both of my Level 2 classes at the UCB (stop by if you're around the theater at 2 or 5pm). My hogging days are over - I've only signed up for one lvl 3 class.

I am relatively new to improv but find it to be a great creative outlet and the community of the UCB just can't be beat.

I went to elementary school with Frank Shea - the most feared dodge ball player ever. Asside from him, I didn't know anyone at the theater when I started to come to the theater regularly last May (though my first class wasn't until January '01 due to me backpacking around various parts of the world).

I am also in a wednesday practice group which can boast 5 of the top 8 posters to the IRC (don't you think that's a little much guys?).

Oh, and on saturday I met Blossom.

Hey John, Lighten up!
Yancy Scrimp

Yours truly,

That’s it for now.
It’s great to finally be here in NY.
Now I’m into UCB.
That was when I was a wee lass many moons ago.
I started improvising at the Upfront in LA.
He is a brilliant and strange man.
Worked a lot with Keith Johnstone.
I did that for about 6 years.
Or more fondly referred to as BATS.
While there I taught and played with Bay Area TheaterSports.
Before that I lived in San Francisco.
Second, I live in NY.
First of all, my new Favorite movie is Memento.
My name is Sheffield.

Hello,

for all the cows
Hullo. I'm Porter. It's nice to (semi)meet you all.

I'll add that reading some of these threads has been insanely interesting and helpful. I'm hooked.

Plus, I've been searching for things to do all day while trying desparately not to work (the Weezer message boards are getting old). Problem solved! Thank you, IRC!

bye!
Porter!

Hi, my name is Johanna. I am from Silverton, OR. I daydream about my home state all the time (just like Eli).
I moved to NYC 3 years ago to study acting at AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy). Since taking improv at UCB, it has not only changed my perspective about acting, but about life.
I just finished level 2 with Mullaney. I'm looking forward to level 3 with Secunda.
Oh yeah, I used to study dance, mostly in Oregon. I miss it. I love yoga.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Most of us actors have hooked at one time or another when times were tight. It's not a pleasant fact, but it is a fact. Prostitution, for all of its dangers, is a fact of life, the oldest profession. Never be ashamed.

chicago thing...

heya...

my name is macarthur antigua. born in chicago, now living in chicago. first came across improv while at northwestern playing with the Titanic Players in '96.

started taking classes at IO and Annoyance in september of '96, and somehow got put on a IO team called geneaology. got the privilege to rehearse early on saturday mornings and be coached by mullaney, and got to play with talents such as molly erdman, jed resnik, lindberg, ike, m.t. cozzola, david peggs, and tin penavic. we hung together for more than two years performing some bitter and gritty work. then played briefly with daddy's delight. i've been playing with my current team Space Mountain for almost two years -- a wonderful group of people.

the real world: i work as a program director for Public Allies, an AmeriCorps leadership development/community service initiative for young adults.

my only national television appearance -- contestant on "weakest link", airdate june 25, 2k1. i was the obnoxious guy who got knocked off after the round of 4.

peace,
mac

Mac forgot to add...

... that he is one of the nicest people on earth. I am proud to have him as a friend. I would say he's the nicest guy I know, but then the nicest guy I know would've listed me before Erdman.

And that's one to grow on.

Mac, you weren't that obnoxious on "weakest link", but I was impressed by your diction. Please call my voice mail and say "Felicity" again. :p

I heard someone say "Felicity," but it must have been off topic because this thread is "Introduce yourself here," not "The Greatest TV Show of the last three years."

Me

I'm Ben Zolno.

I studied at Second City in High School and went on to IO after college, where I performed with a couple of teams.

My happiest improv moments were my latest Stacy and Me show in which I had the pleasure of working in a 2 person show with the help of the above Don Hall at WNEP theater, and with the above Megan Pedersen and Cholley at The Playground in the Director's Series.

Me wise, I'm a guy who loves basketball, kids, and travelling/living in my van.

I moved to the glorius NYC two days ago, and am currently looking to move out of my van. Anyone who knows a sweet deal in a sweetish neighborhood for a sweet studio or share can contact me at zolno@yahoo.com.

Also, I'm looking to talk to anybody who knows anything about acting, modeling, and/or filmmaking here in NYC, because in a couple of days I'll be trying to make some serious cash doing stuff I seriously enjoy (seriously). (Icon for icon's sake).

I love the improv community that I'm stepping out of for a bit so that I can get my career going, whatever that means.
