Introduce yourself here:

NYC Student

I'm a student at Columbia University (senior).

I've been doing improv with a student group called Klaritin since the Spring of 2004 and am currently enrolled in a Level 2 class at UCBT taught by Charlie Todd.

I've also been doing standup comedy since February 2005. For about three months I've been a Friday/Saturday regular at the Underground Lounge on the Upper West Side.

I study Computer Science and Creative Writing. Upon entering the real world I will pursue a career in performance and writing. I'd love to be on a Harold team at UCBT.

BEATNIKSF

Adorkable... that's me!
Kate Kotler - actor/director/teacher/improviser/person.

I'm not exactly new here - but, I feel like talking about myself today.

I live in San Francisco. I do improv here with my troupe - The Beatnik Syndicate. (Read my blog.) I am a "core company member" of the San Francisco Improv Cooperative (visit our website). I've had the opportunity to study here with some really kick ass people via masterclasses - Mick Napier, Ian Roberts, etc... And, ongoing classes with SFIC people whom I respect.

I've lived in SF for a year & 1/2 - prior to which I lived north of Chicago (read: Wisconsin) in hell for a year, prior to which I lived in New Orleans for two years, prior to which I lived in LA for three years (actually 2 years, 9 months), prior to which I lived in Boston for three years, prior to which I lived in Cleveland for a year, prior to which I lived in Kent, Ohio - where I am from.

I've done improv (and, studied improv) in all of these locations and with various people whom may or may not have name recognition... but, I have developed my improv senseblities as a result of these experiances.

By education - I am a "movement" professor. Meaning - I am qualified to teach movement for the stage (Laban, Alexander, Grotowski) to both aspiring actors of the collegiate level and beyond. In practice - I support myself mostly by directing... and, teaching theater studies to both "at risk" kids and "really disgustingly wealthy" kids.

It's an existance in opposites.

I am 32, a Scorpio, single and like to dance... wait. Wrong post.

hello

Hi Everyone, my name is Tony Zaret, I have decided to get into this blogger because it seems like there are lots of cool comedy people on here. I live in New York City. I am 6'2". I have blonde hair and blue eyes. Ok everyone, I'll see you around the blogosphere.

music makes me invincible
My name is Mike Short - I registered here once a long time ago, and I'm pretty sure I have a post intro-ing myself from way back when. If I recall, I made a comment about dividing my loyalties beyween this board and YesAnd. Anyways, I think I'll hang out here for a while.

What I do for a living: professional geek. I work for Marvel Comics as an editor (which is so cool). I don't work in original material, so don't send me pitches, I can't help you. I work in special projects and reprints. Go ahead to your local comic book shop and pick up a recent trade from Marvel, there's my name under "assistant editor." Now you can all claim you know someone in the comics biz.

Currently not in a group, just finished up a class with Armando Diaz. WHo knows what is next for me.

Thanks for having me!

Sorry I did'nt see this message. I introduced myself in the other room. Again My name is Grace Latore, and Im from the Philippines, then migrate in New York when I was 5 and now residing here in Los Angeles.

After hearing the meow-meow-meow about the IRC for 2+ years, I finally got my act together and signed up.

About me: I live in New York, but do most of my improv (performing) in Philadelphia.

Hey everybody. My name's Rich and I've studied this past summer with Second City NY. I live in Connecticut right now and am a student at Uconn, so I'm not doing much improv or comedy at all, but I plan to make to move to NYC eventually.

I like to do a lot of comedy writing and I post a lot of it on my site (links down there) and it'd be awesome if you checked it out.

I love going to shows at the UCB when I get the chance and I'm a huge New York Rangers fan.

Sorry this wasn't funny.

New to the board --
Paul Townsend . . . I teach high school theatre and yes, we do improv "way out here" in Arizona. Was with the Jester'Z and now I teach my kids at school "yes, and" on a daily basis.
Married 17 years, got four kids and a dog.
Arizona Diamondbacks, Dallas Cowboys and Phoenix Suns are my favorite teams.
I voted for Bush . . . both times. For both of them. No, really.
I'll be back.

this is awesome
Hello everyone, I'm Robin and I've recently become addicted to the IRC message board and myspace.
do you think this is cause for concern?

Well, nevermind that now. I'm originally from Philly, PA, which is where I got my first taste of delicious, succulent improv. When I was a senior in high school my English teacher decided to mix it up or something and introduced us to the fine short-forming folks at Comedy Sportz. We learned the a bunch of games and started up a team as an after school activity. We even got to perform for the PTA, if memory serves. Impressed yet?

Anyway, when I moved to NYC a few years ago to make it big as an actor, a friend of mine introduced me to the UCB. I was immediately impressed and enrolled in a Level I class right away. I was fortunate enough to study under Rob Huebel before he went off to garner all of his commercial uh, commercial success.

I took about a year and a half hiatus from studying improv with the UCB and returned last year full speed ahead. I'm just about half way through my Level 501 with Billy Merritt who is the bee's knees.

Anyhow, that's about it. I'm gonna go unplug for awhile.
Onward and upward as they say.

Grade 36 Bureaucrat
Greetings, Earthlings. Been standing back in the shadows, but now I'm ready to reveal myself in a legal manner. Took a few acting & stand up classes in the past. Recently, finished 4 sessions at ComedySportz in Philly. Mainly, I now write sketches & doodle on celebrities' faces in fashion mags. Thinking about the story of the tree that falls in the forest: If you post a blog & nobody comments, did you really write it? Visit the cheapest tourist spot-http://blogofrevelation.blogspot.com/

Holy Crap, it's Nate

Nate Kushner here. I have long been an occasional lurker here. (except for sometimes a year ago when I used to post plugs for sketch shows here without ever having been a student or player of longform. I wasn't supposed to do that, but regardless, I've enjoyed reading some of the discussions even while having little to add.)

Anyway, I've had sporadic training in some short forms, but never performed it with any regularity, and have long since been completely bored with that. My sketchmate Mike has just finished his level two, and thus has been dragging me out to UCB shows a lot over the past month, and I've just been fantastically inspired, like "Holy crap, that's how grownups do an improv show."

I haven't been in any kind of class for almost a year, and now that I've gotten the good news of what my tax refund is going to be, I'm two weeks from starting level 1 UCB (with Will Hines). I'm 25 now, and I've been some combination of actor, sketch writer, playwright, director, musician, stand-up, singer-songwriter, etc, for the past 10 years or so. I'm very much looking forward to starting down this agonizing road, and adding longform improv my arsenal of comedy things I can do. Other things I'm a nerd about include sketch comedy, pop music released between about 1977 and 1982, guitar playing, bass playing, modern Irish drama, interesting beers, and Twin Peaks.

I hope to have more to say in the coming weeks, cause I'm expecting to have hella fun with this. Some sketch comedy I'm involved in can be found at www.aweekofkindness.com

I miss New York City and improvising. Now that I'm someplace else, doing things I'd rather not be doing I've decided to register for the IRC. I hope to become inspired by you all. No pressure.

A fact about me:
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I often eat it twice in a row.

New here

Been scrolling around here on and off for a bit, finally ready to jump in (I think). I am new to Improv and addicted. Taking classes at Westside Eclectic in Santa Monica. Great people! Neat space! My goal: get my first solo-show produced.

Organized Chaos

Improv is Anarchy. Learn to swim! We are thrown into the mix and must fend for ourselves and each other. The only rule is yes and golden. Destroy! Destroy! Hit me back if you live in New York and want to start hucking mental hand grenades at some heads and watch 'em explode into riotous laughter.
