Improvise with the whole body | Lecoq training in NYC

#1
SPACE AND STORY
PHYSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

This one-day immersion in the teaching of Jacques Lecoq is designed to set in motion the interplay between the actor's mind and body. Through exercises and improvisations the actor discovers and strengthens the body’s ability to express the full scope of the imagination. Movement analysis sets the stage for the structuring of play, transforming the actor into an architect of dramatic creation.

In this workshop we will investigate the body’s inherent storytelling capabilities. Where does a story come from? When exactly does it emerge? How do we recognize a universal story vs. a private one? How do movements of bodies in space communicate stories? What spaces call for a story? We will explore space, rhythm and dynamic movement and sharpen our way of seeing to better identify emerging narrative in our play. We will observe, analyze and structure our improvisations into mini stories, opening portals into theatrical worlds and creation possibilities.
