imovie help needed!!

#1
hi mac people -

i am trying to import footage from my digital camera (canon powershot s230 digital elph) into imovie. when i plug the camera in, it is recognized in iphoto but it says it has no photos (all i have on it right now is one short video clip). when i open imovie, it says no camera attached. so what now?

i called my apple care people, and the idiot woman had no idea what to do.
so i'm stuck.

i would love your help.

thanks.

What do you use to connect the camera to the computer? USB? Firewire?

I'm no expert but I think if you connect it with a USB port, imovie won't recognize it as a video camera. i think your camera may save your movie as an .MPEG file. imovie i think just recognizes DV format--i may be wrong. however I think there is a way to import the .MPEG file into imovie once it is on your hard drive.

When you connect your camera to the computer, a dialogue box should pop up and tell you how many files your camera has on it and asking you how many files you want to download. this dialogue box is not part of imovie or iphoto. trying connecting your camera without starting either program.

that's my amatuer knowledge on the subject. hope it works out.

I don't use iMovie so I don't know how to fix it but if your Mac is recognizing the camera when you attach it, I recommend just copying the file over yourself. If your camera (or its drive) shows up on Macintosh HD, you should be able to click into its folders and grab the files.

Here's another I-movie question...

Are the titles always digital and choppy looking? And why do things always look off center? Does anyone know what I mean?
