I'm moving from Chicago to NYC!

Hello New York! I'm moving to you in a week and am so excited!

No doubt an advice thread has been hatched before, but do you have any advice for the newly transplanted? I have an apartment but need to find a job and an acting agent and eventually a new voice teacher once I have a job and can afford one. Any advice on where to start looking for those?

I look forward to meeting some of you message board lurkers in person!

Woo hoo! New York is awesome. You can check the job thread for some job leads. I don't know about agents, they're not the easiest things to find.

But there's cheap hot dogs all over the city!

Welcome!

There are plenty temp agencies in the city, some better than others. I used Glocap, and got a job immediately. Extra work is also good for some last minute cash. Talenthunter.com is a decent website that emails you job notifications every other day.

Do you have an apartment? I live in Washington Heights in a HUGE apartment and can practically panhandle for rent money.

Get a Time Out. There are several articles about cheap and fun New York living.

Break a leg!

Once football season starts (50 days?), make sure you go to the Gin Mill at 82nd and Amsterdam. It's not the Swamp, but you'll still like it.

Thanks all! I am super excited to be here. I'm still waiting on my furniture and clothes to be delivered from Chicago, but once they are here I will hit the ground running job wise. I haven't had a hot dog yet, but I have had many many bagels.

Hey, I thought it was time to change my name to my actual name.

I've met a bunch of improvisers and can't wait to meet more of you. Everyone has been so nice! thanks for being so welcoming!!!

If you wanna meet TONS of improvisors, come to one of the many Under St. Marks shows, usually on Fridays of Saturdays, 10:30pm. For example tonight. (I'm not plugging! I'm helping a girl out!)

Horseshit Chris!
PLUG ALERT PLUG ALERT.
Someone call the doo-doo train because you are full of shit. Not a plug my ass. If you really want to meet people go the the show at the creek in the cave tonight at 8:00. (This is a plug at least I am a man to admit it Chris. Liars fuckin' piss me off) (This is sarcasm. Apparently I have trouble conveying it in normal conversation as well as the internet.) (Also there will not be people at this show so it is not a good way to meet people.) (I actually have know idea about this show including location I may not make it.) (This is very long and has nothing to do with this thread.) (Sorry Gator Girl.)
