If I were to create a second site for "off topic journals"

Would you be interested in being a charter member of a site devoted to journalling?

I don't even think there is a reason for it. It wouldnt solve any of these deep-rooted issues. So I'm sayin no.

I just wanted to edit to say that I think it's nice of you to think of that option :) For what it's worth.

I don't understand why you'd flush your money like that, Kev. It wouldn't help to mitigate many (if any) of the problems you've identified with this board, you'd be giving the Internet free reign to dine on your bandwidth (the "free journal site" business model is a dog that won't hunt), and you'd probably have this new site absolutely explode once the blogging community at large catches its scent. I think it's noble and magnanimous of you to make the gesture, and you're a better man than I, but I guess I don't quite understand your goals or why you feel obligated to do something like this. If a community chooses to pick up and build a new tent, let them build their own.

What Frank said. Even though I voted that I'd keep a journal there. It's too much to ask of you. You have the right to make the rules for your community as you see fit.

The IRC was interesting to me because of the community, not just the journaling. Since the Peyton heyday, we "randoms" have been bashed and told how unwelcome we are (not by Mullaney :) my secret crush) I don't know if I would be interested in just journaling.

I'm a maybe.

Mullvaney,
If thats where you want me I'll go. I have been impressed with your fairness & professionalism in this wacky format, and will do as asked. It also feels much better than being booted completely. Not that I would have voluntarily gone.
Also I think It would be fair to ask for a donation of some sort for non-improvers who use this site. Except for me of course.

Should have... yeah.

Much as I would hate to admit it, I agree entirely with Scott (Frank Gondorchin). Don't go making a decision based on guilt and misplaced good intentions. The journals are attached to this community and that's what gives them worth. Anything else kind of makes you an altruistic sucker who will be at the mercy of the internet community at large.

The humble opinion of a not-so-humble Troll. Even if the off-topics were relegated to a separate board, I'd still end up reading things here. I have no interest in performing, but I do want to know about the craft. I enjoy watching others perform their art (whether it is improv, acting, singing or whatever). The more I know about their art, the more I am able to appreciate the work and effort that went into making a good performance. So I'd be here, reading and soaking stuff up either way. Learning IS a life-long process after all.

Whatever happens I don't think Kevin should have to do any more fucking work then has to already with the IRC. There are sites for this stuff already right?

I think Kevin making a new site is completely taking advatage of his good nature.

One other possible wrinkle could be if there were a motivated person or team of people from the Off-Topic Journals who wanted to start a site, I might be willing to assist them in setting up a vbulletin message board and help transfer interested journals to it.

Can it be called Random Maddness? And we create create our own "Lord of the Flys" scenario pecking to death anyone who doesn't please us?

What would be involved with it? I'm willing, but I'll admit that I am not very computer savy.

Actually, I take this back. I know I would be way over my head with that.

I may be interested in this. I don't know, I'm not that computer savvy and I can't spell real good either. But I have this pencil......

I think it is more about the community than the blogs. There are many blog sites.

This community is fun and funny. (er, most of the time).

Plus it isn't a "blocked" site at my office, which makes it extra fun.
