I just changed something to reduce server load. Please let me know if you notice any weird behaviour, especially concerning private forums.

I also took down the link to search for today's active threads. Sorry, but I think that the amount of searches that people do might cause the problem with the server load. You can still do a search (the link still exists on the front page of the message board), I'm just making it slightly less convenient by taking it out of the default header.

UGH!!!

Mullaney, you're an amazing person for keeping this whole thing together. I was forced to remember that when the server went down the other day in concurrence with the spike. I don't kow what we'd do without you! However, dude, please find a way to resore the shortcut to the "search for new active threads" link - my life depends on it! Its absence changes the flow of the whole site and makes it WAY inconvenient. Please say there's another way!!! Otherwise I fear I may slip into Valley speak permanently! Like, totally dude!!! Gag me with a spoon! Fer sher!

ACK!!!

I must say, I agree that that link is crucial to navigating the site. And when I went to the search page and just tried to dearch for nothing with most recent first, it told me I needed to search for a specific word... soooo - is there no other way to search for today's actibve threads?

Go to the main page and click on "view new posts".

And please don't keep refreshing searches (like the "view new posts" search). They are very server intensive. You don't want to have to choose between being able to do searches and view this board at all.

RE: Weird behavior....

In trying to PM Katie just now (with about 8 people listed as being on the boards, members and non), it took me FIVE tries.
Kept getting the "server busy" message, then it gave me page error twice.

That can't be from any over load.

I think what happens is a search engine might be "spidering" my message board at odd times which causes a server overload. During the day, it's definitely because of too many people on the board.

Not sure what thread to place this in.

I had only received the Server Busy/Contact Host message once or twice in the past and it was always cleared pretty quickly. Then starting yesterday, it arrived and won't go away. My Explorer's "Tools" doesn't have "Internet Options." Maybe this is a Mac thing, I'm not quite sure. I cleared out my old IRC saved files under "Preferences", waited around, and still no luck. I can still get on thru my AOL browser; it's just not as user-friendly.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Billy

We have a lot of extra traffic today and yesterday, because of some news about the UCBT. I think it will die down in a day or two.

Hi Billy,
You're right--it's a Mac thing. Internet Explorer Preferences will get you to the Mac equivalent of Internet Options.

Explorer menu--> Preferences--> Web Browser--> Advanced-->Cache: select "Empty Now." Best to just empty the whole thing rather than attempting to clear selected files.

(Cookies are under Receiving Files and will not be affected).

PS--if you're using OS X, check out a program called IE Cache Cleaner X.
