I didn't like the new incarnation of the Whoopi Goldberg solo show on Broadway.

The original show was amazing (I have it on VHS.) This is diluted, cut down, contains inappropriate/unfunny political ramblings, unformed characters (ok in workshop NOT OK for broadway) and is quite short. One new character is great. One old character is maintained well, another is mangled so you lose lots of back story. Another, gone entirely. The "current" political rant compltely robbed a great character's story of so much power, it was painful and sad to watch. If she were trying to prove her former theatrical "integrity" (what got her noticed when she was a post-smack welfare mom)....well, can't shove the toothpaste back into the tube.

What about "Eddie?" Or "Clara's Heart?" Or (ew) marrying Ted Danson?

The character where she plays the disabled woman is breathtaking. or the ORIGINAL piece about Anne Frank (not the BASTARDIZED version it's become). Try, try to hold on to that.

Even 'center square" Whoopie was OK. But I'm a game show whore.

Which still didn't cost a bzillion Broadway dollars.

I bought the vHS tape of the original show for, like 9.99 and am quite happy. no more whoopi related spending for me. not even slim fast.

i saw it and felt mixed. i loved the original (saw it on tv.)...
i feel like the original version and lily tomlin's show were so groundbreaking and these two women were the pioneers of the solo show.
but this updated version doesn't really keep up with the sarah joneses of the world - it felt like whoopi had aged but her show hadn't, if that makes any sense.
still, was glad to see it.
