[Honolulu] Loose Screws presents Screwbuki

#1
Loose Screws, Honolulu's longest running improvisational theatre group, brings back its critically acclaimed improvised Kabuki performance, "Screwbuki!?!" for five performances at The Arts at Mark's Garage. Performance dates are December 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 8 pm with a special matinee performance on December 19 at 2 pm. This production is presented by the Lizard Loft.

Originally performed in 2000, "Screwbuki!?!" gathered enough attention to be invited to the Chicago Improvisational Festival, where it will hopefully be performed next Spring. Original "Screwbuki!?!" cast members Robb Bonnell, Chris Doi, R. Kevin Doyle and Sean T.C. O'Malley will be joined by fellow Loose Screws Monica Coldwell, Meredith Desha, and Garrick Paikai as well as new Screws Squire Coldwell and Lani Jones.

This time around, "Screwbuki!?!" will be a pair of one-act Kabuki plays made up right before your eyes. Traditional movement, voice, combat and music will be employed, though audience members don't need to know anything about Kabuki to enjoy the production. The focus will be on comedy as the Loose Screws take you back to ancient Edo time and into mythical (and, oftentimes, entirely fictional Japan).

Audience members can call the Lizard Loft at 536-8047 for ticket reservations or information. The Arts at Mark's Garage is located at 1159 Nuuanu Ave. Tickets are $12 admission, though you can get a $2 discount at the door by saying the top secret password, "Yatta."
