I need glasses! Can anyone recommend a good place where people will actually help you find glasses that look good on you, rather than just sell you any random expensive frame? Although cost is a concern, I'd be willing to shell out the extra cash if I know what I'm getting is right for me and will last a while.

Anyone got any ideas?

i really like Euro Optika:
i went to the one on 57th and the guy gave great advice and also seemed to genuinly understand that price was a concern. that said, it's still mucho pricey.

i would do to a local place- theres like 4 in my neighb i didnt even notice till i needed glasses. i like the eye-man on 84th and b'way but i would check your neighb. def go for a mom and chop place rather than an chop shop- those chain places suck ass.

here's the deal. let them show you a few things. be patient. then ask to see whats on sale. a lot of them have slidy drawers and they wont let you just poke around until you prove that you arent crazy. thats my experience anyway. good luck!

Cohen Optical on Lexington between 43 and 44. Cheap, to the point, and if you have crazy vision problems like me, totally tireless until they get it right.

I just had a really nice experience at Occulus at N7th and Bedford. They have a perpetual "liquidation" sign in the window which made me think it was sketchy, but they are very nice and helpful and they ARE in liquidation. They have tons of super nice frames dramatically discounted (they have another store in Cobble Hill with more selection but higher prices.) I was about to buy online but nice german frames I liked were only a hundo, so I went there.

The optometrist was great and nice. It had a nice neighborhoody feel and it was a trip sitting and people-watching.

Hipsters do NOT like to be helped when it comes to fashion. Don't even bother.

Seconded. Shelkey and Whines referred me.
Julie Brister referred me. Nice doctor and helpful staff. Their Moscot house brand basic hipster frames not too much over $120 if I remember correctly (my lenses are freakish expensive so I can't guide you there).
