Great Adventure Tips

I'm going to Great Adventure today for the first time!

What are the best rides?
The worst rides?

Other things to do or avoid?

Batman and Robin : The Chiller

super thrill rides - DON'T do them back to back - you'll have a headache the rest of the day. You need a break after those - your head really smacks around.

Medusa - even the sound this ride makes is perfect.

Nitro is the best coaster in the entire universe.

If you go and don't ride these you have wasted a trip to lovely Jackson, NJ.

I have never ridden Chiller since it is always broken when I go. Don't bother riding Viper - if it is even open, it is a waste of time. Superman is cool if the line isn't too long.

I'm a big fan of Superman, The Ride. You're positioned like you're flying. I got there early on a Sunday and went on it twice back to back.

try telling hte person at the front gate, that you just have to run in to use the ATM to pay for your ticket...and hten on your way out get your hand stamped and then turn around and walk right back in....FOR FREE...it worked for my friend i dont know if it was a fluke, but worth a shot

There are ATMs outside the gates now.

I haven't been since 8th grade. Here's my advice based on that trip:

--Big kids make out in the haunted house
--the line is too long for Rolling Thunder, and everyone in it is a jerk.

That's all I got!

Do not let the Mennonites confuse or distract from your good clean American fun by their presence.

Mennonites differ philosophically from the Amish and can therefore enjoy the electric wonders of Six Flags.

Have an awesome time! Get a funnel cake, take a sky ride across the park and get on the swings. It's a PG ride but it's my favorite!

superman is awesome! the only ride i went on more than once.

i also couldn't go on anything else b/c apparently when you are over 25 rollercoasters give you headaches and vertigo.

Go on the Freefall. Have a quarter ready. As your ridecar climbs to the top put the quarter on your knee and when the buzzer goes off, there will be a second or two before the car drops. WATCH THE QUARTER!

Do they still have that Q-bot thing? It's a pricey little gizmo that "stands in line" for you while you go ride something else or buy cotton candy or record a pop single. You check in at the ride, 15-20 minutes later (or however long it would have taken you to stand in line) it buzzes you, then you head to the front of the line. And you can check in at a whole bunch of places at once for maximum efficiency.

When I went in May 2003, I think it was still relatively new and it was the greatest thing that had ever happened to me. Better than true love or free sandwiches for life.

I don't know if it would work as well now; maybe everyone uses it now? Or maybe they've made it cost-prohibitive?

The Spongebob Squarepants 3D ride is a delight. A pleasant suprise during my time at the park. I rode it twice.

Batman/Catwoman: Catfight is perhaps one of the most terrible things I've ever seen. It's campy goodness and a great break from the rollercoasters. Remember, Batman asks that you don't step on the seats of the theater as you leave Batman/Catwoman: Catfight.

Buy one of the question mark shaped Riddler canes that you can buy at the Hall of Justice and walk around the park like you're fancy.

It rained the first hour we were there. That ended up being a great thing as the park was empty the entire night. Never more than a 30 second wait for a coaster. Went on all of the coasters twice, some three times. I rode Great American Scream Machine BY MYSELF two times in a row (I was literally the only person the entire coaster).

Viper and Rolling Thunder were closed.

Nitro was by far my favorite. Just awesome. Love that first huge dip.

Medusa runs a close second.

Superman was great. Never been on a coaster where you ride parallel to the ground like you're flying. So cool.

Both Batman rides were too short. I would have been pissed if I'd waited in line for an hour for a 30 second ride.

I did the freefall quarter trick. Rad! But I didn't like freefall. Too loud and bumpy.

I also didn't follow Shannon's advice. Rode many coasters twice in a row. Lots of fun in the short term, but definitely a mistake in the long term in terms of headache and nausea.

Thanks for the tips, IRC!
