I know there are some improvisers running in the NYC marathon this year and I just wanted to say good luck to you! Just getting on that starting line is a huge accomplishment.

Special shout out to Christine Magee and Timothy Cooper. Go get 'em!

I'll be giving out high fives on 1st and 5th avenue and maybe try to get inside Central Park as well.

Here's a fun game I played with my brother this year in watching the NYC Marathon from just after the 1/2-mile to go marker:

Before arriving, announce how many of each category you must find in this year's race. Then when you watch, call it out.

Stuff like:

3 people with bloody nipples (quarter-sized stains don't count)
1 man wearing pink tights
1 ultrapatriot for the U.S.
1 person running the wrong way (we didn't think we'd see this, but we did when a woman dropped her bottle then had to backtrack a few feet to retrieve it)
1 husband running with his wife that has leapt into the race for the last bit (or vice versa)
1 fallen child
1 man who stops right where we are and we have to give him a pep talk to get moving again
1 person with a (large) flag for a cape
1 person running holding a (large) flag on a stick (preferably two)
1 costumed person
1 person with a colorful mohawk
1 person who is a bit too proud of her cancer
1 person wearing a shirt with a photo of whom s/he is running in loving memory
1 heavily tattooed person
3 runners with prosthetic legs
1 amputee (above the waist, like an arm or hand or something)
1 person who pooed himself while running

Watching the NYC Marathon from the sidelines is really fun. Playing this game makes it even funner!

I stumbled upon the end of the Marathon yesterday and I was surprised to find that I was very excited about it. Lots of positive energy. I couldn't believe that everyone at the end was still SMILING. Good lord, I'd have been weeping at that point.

I saw flags in the crowd and on the runners - England, Norway, Canada, Japan, France, so many. I saw people pulling each other by the hand to finish. I saw people of all ages and sizes. It was truly amazing.

I'm glad to see that Benorbeen was having fun for the wrong reasons as usual & to think that he would be upset that he wasn't in it this year. Please practice empathy & not apathy next time, Ben!!! I saw a little bit of this marathon this year & I also truly thought that it was amazing as well. There was just so much positive energy coming from it & I just thought it was a truly inspiring marathon.
