I'm looking to get an official handicap (instead of just telling other golfers, "around 10") so I can compete in some tournaments.

Does anyone know of any public courses in the NYC area?

followups...
1. What's the name of the course?
2. Is it somewhat accessible by train (subway, PATH, LIRR, or MetroNorth)?
3. Do you know how much greens fees are?
4. Wanna play with me?

Bethpage State Park. US Open was held on the Black course a few years back. 45 minutes and a quick cab ride from Penn Station. Public course, I believe the fees are reasonable. And sorry, I don't play golf!

(Irrelevant aside - I grew up about a mile away from here and used to go sledding on the course).

Also, Van Cortland Park in the Bronx is lovely and accessible by the 1 train (take it to the end of the line)

(Irrelevant aside - I lived down the street from here for several years. There's a great diner right by the 238th street stop.)

Also in the Bronx, Mosholu Golf Course (9 holes), accessible off the last stop on the 4 train.

Let me know if you want to hit the links in the Bronx, Sean.
