For the power poppers

The hardcore power pop fans probably already know this (MJC), but Shoes (no "the") continue to sell copies of their once out-of-print CDs on their own label, having purchased the rights back from Elektra. I ordered two this week and I'm pretty sure the actual Jeff Murphy of the band is the guy who emailed me in response. Pretty neat. (I saw the "Too Late" video on VH1 Classic and had to get a Shoes fix.)

The discs arrived today.

Homemade copies of the original liner notes, and a CD-R with a stuck-on label. Nothing you can resell on eBay for profit. But the audio is great. And the music... is really something.

It's very straightforward late-70s early-80s power pop. Think Raspberries or Knack... but with better vocal harmonies than the Raspberries and none of the ironic detachment of the Knack. This is pure, melodic pop. Start with "Present Tense/Tongue Twister."
