It's a good deal. Just so you know though... it only has a CD burner, not a DVD burner (although it can read DVDs.)
It's about as good as your going to get for a budget Mac laptop. (As in.. this is probably the cheapest price you will find for a late-model Macbook.)

Fairly certain that "iDisk" and sync is part of the .Mac thing. So, yeah, you'd need a .Mac subscription.
I haven't used .Mac, so I'm not sure how it is setup.
A "shared network"? Not quite sure what that means, exactly.
On a network you can share folders (and set permissions on those folders) between Macs easily (without .Mac). You can probably do a Google search for help on that.
