It would be great if we could sort of review this together--pick over the "what's new" and help each other figure out the substantive changes and whether they're improvements or not.

The new keyboard customization looks pretty cool.

I'll be keeping an eye out for free training, demos, and orientations for FCP 4. Will post them here. Perhpas you guys could do the same.

don't know

but converting the files to aiff, while a pain in the ass, isn't that terrible...
i would have liked background rendering, but that won't ever happen.

Nope, just on 3. Saw it today at the Apple store seminar. Floy was there too, so she can add. Some awesome new features. Title software, sound design software, Cinema Tools for film transfer and a DVD burning feature. Some adjustments that just make it look easier for steps you take a lot.

So...someone with a copy share it because it's not cheap!

Is the seminar worth checking out? I'd be interested in getting hands-on with FCP 4, or learning tips and tricks from experienced users.

FYI, Ben Waggoneer and Philip Hodgets are giving seminars at DV expo on color correctiona nd compression. These guys literally wrote the books on this stuff. I cna get a discout for anyone who is interested, but we'd still be talking about ~300 each.

to answer ptolemy's question, NO, the mp3 situation has not been dealt with. the VERY cute instructor, ah Christina, said to just suck it up and up and use cds.

this is an ongoing seminar that starts up every four weeks and is totally free. Christina is especially awesome b.c she's a filmmaker and has vested interest and is still figuring stuff out herself. she's cute, but more importantly passionate.

to all those out there that have ANY version of final cut pro: you're entitled to a $200 upgrade to 4. i'd be interesting in helping out to anyone willing to later share, Mougis you Greek, anyone else?

you can use CD's... or just convert to .aiff through Quicktime or itunes.

then your shitty, illegally obtained .mp3 files will work just fine.

and the upgrade is 400 bucks.

I met Jake's new dish tonight at the NY FCP User's Group. Good call, dude, she is cute. And passionate, it seems.

I also learned that you can get a free copy of Final Cut Express if you trade in your Premeire disks. If you already own FCP4, and trade in your Premiere disks, you get $500 back.
