The I.O. Theater of Chicago (formerly ImprovOlympic) is establishing a training center in Raleigh, NC at the ComedyWorx venue. The world-famous I.O. theaters in Chicago and Los Angeles are the epicenter of training in the art of improvisation. They act as a recruiting stop for television shows like "Saturday Night Live," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "MADtv," supplying New York and Hollywood with writers and performers. This innovative joint venture will create the Raleigh Training Center and join I.O. Chicago and I.O. West (Los Angeles) Training Centers in providing a local source for this ground-breaking Chicago style of improvisational training.
Charna Halpern, the founder of I.O., has been teaching performers how to work together for more than 20 years. Charna's book, Truth in Comedy, which she co-wrote with Kim "Howard" Johnson and her late partner, Del Close, acts as a guide for theaters and improv groups around the world that teach and perform improvisation.
The entire five-level instructional program and individual classes will be absolutely identical to those taught in Chicago and L.A. All the instructors, including Charna Halpern, will travel from Chicago or L.A. to teach in Raleigh. For a better understanding of the classes and I.O.
