Excitement Builds for Performing the World 2!
****************************************************
Over eighty proposals from all over the United States and a dozen other countries have been received and reviewed by Performing the World 2 conveners Lois Holzman, Fred Newman, Sheila McNamee and Lois Shawver. The diversity of proposal topics and approaches was wonderful to see, but evenmore impressive was the innovation and passion of the work being done by people all over the country and the world.
Performing the World 2, The Second International Conference Exploring the Potential of Performance for Personal, Organizational and Social-Cultural Change, will be a milestone in exploring and showcasing performance at the
cutting edge of an international movement for radically humanistic ways of relating to people. Longtime performance-based practitioners will join newcomers to create a learning-teaching-networking-performing environment unlike any other.
Here's a taste of what we have in store for you:
- An evening Youth Development Festival featuring youth organizations and representatives from youth theatre projects in the US, South Africa, Germany and Australia.
- A plenary conversation on "What's Therapeutic about Philosophy and What's Philosophical about Therapy" featuring Fred Newman, Lois Shawver, Sheila McNamee and other prominent postmodern therapists.
- A smorgasbord of performance and improvisation training workshops led by professional trainers and performers.
- Demonstrations and hands-on exploration of performance approaches to community development, teaching and learning, therapy, social work and mental health, medicine, body work and movement, social activism and politics, and more.
- Performance art and dance from established artists-activists from all over the globe.
- Exploration of ritual and traditional culture as tools for personal
Growth and social change, highlighting projects from Bangladesh, the former Yugoslavia, South Africa, Canada and various ethnic communities in the US.
- A plenary session where participants get to perform their responses, reactions and questions to any presentations they've been part of!
Space is limited to 250 participants, so registering by June 1 reserves your place -- and saves you money! The early bird registration fee is $505 before June 1 (based on double occupancy). After June 1, the registration fee is $575 (based on double occupancy). Early Bird registration fees can
be made in 2 payments: $250 by April 25, and $255 by June 1. Both payments are turned in at one time, with the 2nd payment postdated.
We look forward to seeing you at Performing the World 2!
