I'm returning to New York from April 18-21, any shows y'all recommend?

Double props if my old school-mate Bobby Moynihan is in one.

Thanks,
Eugene

All of them.

Seriously...I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the UCB schedule for those days. I'm pretty excited about seeing the return of Feature Feature on Friday nights, and The Swarm is on after them.

Saturday nights are pretty kickass now, with the 1-2-3-4 punch of Respecto, Monkeydick, Mother and the Neutrino Video Projects.

And that's not even getting into stuff at the PIT or Above Kleptomania.

You should see Orchestra PIT!

We're doing a special Friday night show that weekend (April 18th, 10pm) - as well as our normal Sunday 8pm slot.

Come check it out!

Dear Eugene,

Hi! My name's Bob Wiltfong. I'm a former TV reporter who's a member of one of the UCB's Harold teams, Neutrino.

I know we don't know each other -- right now -- but you can learn a whole lot about me by coming to the UCB theater on Saturday, April 19th!

At 7:30pm, I'll be performing my one-man show -- called simply "Wiltfong." It's a show that's gearing up for a future run at the UCB and this performance is kind of a sneak peek. It's a personal show that details why I got out of TV news to pursue a career in acting and comedy. It also includes a number of character monologues that have done well when performed elsewhere in the city.

In that same block, I'll be taking part in a wonderful show called "WUCB Action 5 News." This is a news parody show that involves an all-star cast of improvisers at the UCB. WUCB will be one of the showcase shows at the Chicago Improv Festival next month. This is a chance to see why we got one of those slots.

Then at 10:30pm, my group, Neutrino, will be performing a truly unique form of improv called the Neutrino Video Project (NVP). It's basically an improvised movie where scenes are shot on video and shown to the audience on a big screen. It's very cool and, you're in luck, on April 19th, our special celebrity guest that night will be none other than Eden Riegel. Eden plays Susan Lucci's lesbian daughter on All My Children.

The NVP will also be taking part in the Chicago Improv Festival. We're doing a double-bill night with a group out of Chicago that has started doing the form there -- most recently during a sold-out run at IO.

So you see, Eugene, not only does Saturday, April 19th at the UCB provide you with a wealth of quality entertainment, but it also allows you to learn a whole lot about me: an absolute stranger to you!

Hope to see you there,
Bob Wiltfong

P.S.- Besides these shows I mentioned, Saturday night at the UCB also includes performances by Monkeydick, Respecto Montalban, Mother and The Documentary. Those performances alone are great shows as well!

Bob was selling himself hard, but in a good way. In fact, the only thing wrong with his post is that on midnight on Saturdays is the Lottery, not the Documentary.

The Lottery is always worth checking out. Seasoned Harold team members join a student from each level of classes (1, 2, 3, 3B, and 4) and mix it up to perform two Harolds for you. Its a great show for everyone involved, especially the audience.

Wow, I forgot how action packed NY is compared to Florida. Looks like I'm going to have a fun weekend. Thanks everyone!

One last question, can I purchase tickets at the door (I don't know how many people I'm gonna try to bring with me) or do I need to buy tickets in advance?

And Bob, that was an awesome sell.

Thanks again,
Eugene

First off, my apologies. Yes, the Lottery does go up Saturday nights at midnight -- not Documentary. Yes, the Lottery is a great show as well -- veterans and rookies mixing it up on stage!

Second...regarding buying tickets in advance...as far as attending shows at the UCB...you don't have to buy tickets in advance, but I would suggest you make reservations in advance. You can do that by calling the theater's reservation number at 212-366-9176. Especially coming from out of town, making a reservation at shows you want to see will assure you of getting a seat. With a reservation, you can just pay for your ticket when you show up at the theater.

Keep in mind, the UCB has just moved into a new space with a lot more seats -- 140 of 'em. Still I would make reservations in advance just to make sure you don't get shut out for some reason.

I defer to someone else's expertise on how to handle shows at The PIT and elsewhere.

Your private dancer on April 19th,
Bob Wiltfong
