DVDs and movies

I'm just playing myself in with the format of the site. Looks very good.

I'm a DVD buff-snob of sorts. I rent 5 DVD's a week and if any take my fancy, I write them up. I try to stick with critically acclaimed movies, but I've run out of DVD's to view so have been moving into the mainstream section.

And it is a fucking awful mess. The Movie industry today is not in a good shape. They got fat and greedy producing megahits and that makes them even fatter and greedier and perfectly content to chew out crud by the barrel load. Look at the "New Releases" section. How many look like they deserve a viewing?

I rarely go to the movies these days. What's the point of paying $15 bucks to watch some kid paint the screen with a laser pointer, hearing mobiles go off and all that shit?

The last 2 movies I've seen have been Minority Report and Bend it like Beckham. I deliberately caught both on the end of their release cycle and must admit it was a much better movie-going experience.

Minority Report was the only standount action film in the winter of discontent - all those here today, gone tomorrow movies that saturated the screens. Bend it like Beckham, will be, I think, a movie to rival Some like it Hot.

DVD tip - look for an obscure muscial called "All that Jazz". (1979) The first hour of that movie is the greatest hour I've ever seen.
