Drivers License Renewal?

#21
I still need to go trade my SC license in for a NY one. Does anyone know if you have to bring a birth certificate? Per Terry's info above:

-Provide at least two points of identification and proof of date of birth, and your out-of-state photo driver license and your Social Security Card.

What does that mean? Can I bring my SS card, SC license, and passport and that will be enough? Maybe a ConEd bill too to prove where I live?

Charlie,

You don't necessarily need a birth certificate, but (to play it safe) here's what I strongly suggest... in addition to what you're bringing: Some type of health insurance ID card, an ATM card, a bank statement, and maybe even a phone or cable bill. (As you know, COPIES of birth certificates are no longer acceptable in New York. So unless it's the original one, it won't count.)

I know the items I listed seem kind of redundant, but you'll be pretty pissed off if you get to the front of the line and it turns out they can't give you your license because of some new policy (just enacted that day) which now requires more than two proofs of residence.

If all else fails, just have a friend come up to you and say, "Oh my God! You're Ben Folds!"

I just recently went from Washington State -> NY driver's license.

Couple things:

1) The License X-Press place near Herald Square is pretty damn fast. Go there.

2) Charlie, you should have enough with what you've got plus a credit card and utility bill is probably enough.

3) The total price was 43.50

4) They're going to take your old driver's license. I'm guessing it's a post 9/11 thing...but you're going to get a shitty paper license that you'll have to use for a couple weeks. Which means I didn't have photo ID for a couple weeks, I just had this interim thing, which most guards recognized and didn't have a problem with.

i think you have like 30 days of residency to get a ny license - if you are caught driving with the out of state license and they find out you live and work in NY you'll get a ticket

i got a ticket in virginia because i waited over thirty days to get my virginia license UPDATED when i moved within virginia, and the worst was i couldn't just pay it - had to go to court and show da judge the revised VA license - so - if you get pulled over on the out o state license - tell them you still live out o state
