Dog Park Virus

Wanted to share this with other dog owners in the City in case you seen similar symptoms in your pet.

There's a stomach virus still going around the dog parks. Dogs can give each the virus from mingling and sniffing fecal matter off each others butts. It causes severe digestive pain, nausea, excessive vomiting and diarrhea and my baby got it.

Word from the vet, or if your pet shows similar symptoms- take his food and water away, keep him hungry. Bland food only (chicken and rice or digestive wet food) when there stomach settles after a full eight hours. And keep the pup away from other dogs until the virus passes.

I've watched Bun many many times- maybe spend more time with him than his actual owner- I have never fuckin' seen him or any other pet I've watched that get that sick before. Scared the shit out of me and launched me into full fledged psycho mom mode.

His owner mentioned A- that a dog on the street pissed on his head the other day (Bun's really tiny and if big dogs don't try to eat him- they mark territory on him. It's a little unfortunate but we deal.) B- He's had random fits of sickness in the last week wherein he vomits and then goes back to normal.

Last night at around midnight- the pup ran into my room and sat under my bed violently shaking like a piece of furniture fell on him. When I got up to see was okay he yacked all over the living room, on the couch on the floor, back up on my bed. this went on for well over an hour. I called his owner (I'm the surrogate) and 24 hour vet and took him in for an emergency check up. I fed him some treats at Thanksgiving dinner to keep him from begging- and the change in diet aggravated his stomach. When he first started to get sick last night- I gave him some water, not knowing this would make it worse. His tremors worsened over the next few hours and I had to rush him to the hospital. They gave him an ingestion of some puppy antacid and and fluid pack to prevent dehydration.

Last night fuckin' sucked. But the pups totally okay now and the vet says it should pass over the next day or two.

Mind your babies and be especially careful to watch them if you take them to the dog run.

I love this little fucker.

I just passed this on to a friend who's a dog walker. Nothing's more embarrassing than walking someone's dog and giving the dog a disease in the process.

BTW- This is not to be confused with the heinous Parvo or Corona viruses that can be life threatening. the symptoms are similar, but most dogs now get standard immunization shots with regular vet visits. It's just a strain of stomach flu.

*Fun little anecdote about puppy diarrhea...

Last night some friends crashed at my place, including my roommate's sister. My roommate thought it would be adorable/hilarious to wake her sister up by putting Bun on her face. My roommate didn't realize that Bun had a bad case of the runs this morning. Shortly thereafter her sister screamed, freaked the shit out of Bun - literally. He dragged his soggy ass all over her bed, smearing shit everywhere. Then on to the couch all over my friend Carson. Then into my room and all over my lovely white sheets.
Within minutes a party of five hungover adult types were chasing Bunny around our tiny apartment like some bitch-wild hog. I have his owner's ringtone set as "Yakkity Sax" from the Benny Hill show- she rang me just in time for the festivities providing the perfect background music.

Adorable!... and fuckin' disgusting.

Don't let your puppy catch this shit. I got a big ass load of dry cleaning to drop tomorrow, and honestly, it's well worth it as long as the little one's okay. furry little shitbag indeed:love:
