Dismantlement

Yeah. One of the things I love about UCB is that there are so many ways to feel part of it. You take a class and do a graduation show, and if it's on a Tuesday, you're part of Harold Night. You get to know other improvisors at all levels. It's a wonderful thing to be part of something bigger. And you also come to care about what goes on there, and feel some attachment to the people and teams you've seen perform. By "you" I mean "I" but I'm sure I'm not alone.

I don't think anyone's wrong for wanting to know what's going on, or for leaking information that's out there. If the best source of information is the McManus crowd, then the news is already up for grabs. It'll get around, whether over the IRC or through other channels. And it'll leave a lot of us confused.

I'm sure there are lots of good changes in the air as well as sad and controversial ones. I'm sure some very talented people will get placed on teams, and that's great. I wish that every team to be disbanded had had a farewell show. I mean, one that we knew would be the last show, so we could go celebrate them one more time. And like Dan and others, I hope an official announcement comes soon.

Guys, when I come back for thanksgiving, i'll still be able to see improv, right? I'm scared.
Hey, jamal how are you? I will personally pick you up at Penn Station with no less than six improvisers, and we can joyfully La Ronde our way down Ninth Avenue, I promise you. Name the time, and day, ok?

You with me?! I know you are!

So it the general understanding that:

Disbanded:
Filth
Police Chief Rumble
Van Buren

Added to Harold team line up:
Robin Williams

plus a few other individual people added, deleted or moved?

I got that much from an intern before he passed out.

I do hope that, soon, there will be an official announcement of some sort, instead of info trickling out like it's starting to.
This thread is evidence that someone should have done that already. I think posting a news item on the website would help as would an email to all students and performers. That's just one ex-improv theater manager's opinion, though.

I'm sure this is exactly how the UCBT hoped this info would be released.

Where is Wanda G when we need her?
I know for this is truly is a Spreadworthy cause. Hopefully, Wanda will return soon from her train trip.

Just to add a bit of clarity to this discussion...Two mass emails were sent out in the last week, one by the UCB to address general theater changes and the other by Owen which was for Harold Team Members and spoke specifically to the changes occuring in Harold Night. So ultimately most of the people that this affects have been contacted. Owen even offered his cell number to Harold Members that were affected by these changes and told them to call whenever, to talk before rumors got started, he also noted that this process was going to take some time to avoid any rushed decisions.

From reading these emails one can easily assume that while the specific changes may not be public information yet, the people who have been affected are getting the news that they personally need. So I don't think anyone will have the full picture until everyone has been personally contacted and aware of what's happening them individually, but with a group of this size it will take some time.

When you think about it, it's been less than a week since the "changes" have happened and it seems to be wrapping up already. I don't know a way to do it better. But obviously there is always curiousity about how these decisions affect us all and unfortunately I think this forum will inevitable slant towards the negative in theater discussions (based on previous IRC threads) because sometimes all the information isn't present to everyone posting because it doesn't personally affect them.

I guess time will tell and when it does I'm sure that everyone who wants an answer can get it, either from talking to the members of the affected teams/performers or speaking to the artistic director. I think the artistic director has to make sure things are handled in a way where the person gets the information first and the community gets it 2nd, especially when it's this type of large change, I think you owe that respect to the performers.

That's my 2 cents

UCBT is really great because it is most often a wonderfully supportive community. So, in the mean time, lets be supportive and support those who have to make some hard decisions.
I didn't want this to get lost.
