As someone who's seen this stuff happen as both an insider, fence sitter, outsider, and now semi-retired member of this community for five years...
As someone who has felt both the harsh reality and the clouded view from what you think is the only cloud in the sky, but is really just another invisible hydrogen filled bed next to 100 other ones just like you...
I present...
JOEY CATZ'S 12 RULES TO LIVE BY* TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE ANNUAL UCB ARTISTIC SHAKE UP:
1) People will second guess and complain about the decisions, publicly and privately,
2) People will applaud and approve the decisions, publicly and privately
3) Someone really deserving will finally get their shot, proving that perserverance and hard work pays off.
4) Someone really deserving will get passed up again, and never be seen or heard from again, prompting conversations six months later to the tune of "What ever happened to..."
5) Someone who has potential but is just okay as a performer right now will get their shot and other people will secretly complain about it. The potential performer will turn into one of the bright spots on the UCB roster, 2 years from now, the complainers will still be at McManus, and the potential person will still be performing.
6) Someone who has potential but is just okay as a performer right now will get passed up and complain about it by posting under a pseudonym in a scathing post on these boards, that will be 20% factual, 80% hateful, and 100% vilified by the community, even though 60% of the 100% villifying it secretly agree with 70% of it. 2 years from now, no one will remember the person, but they'll still refer to the pseudonym, in whatever post is made then, completing the vicious circle.
7) The really incredibly talented performers will continue to be incredibly talented, regardless of what happens to them, and won't let any decision affect them.
8) The really average taleneted people will be devastated or elated, depending on which way the wind blows at them, in a life or death kind of way.
9) 99% of the new people will be the right choices, and 99% of the people let go will be the right choices, but people will only talk about the other 1%.
10) There will continue to be incredible harolds done by both incredible and mediocre harold teams, every tuesday night
11) There will continue to be mediocre harolds done by both incredible and mediocre harold teams, every tuesday night.
12) Joey Catz will audition if there are auditions. However, auditions or not, Joey Catz will not get put on a team.
And everything will be right in the universe once again.
