Take the air tran to the LIRR and take it straight into the city. It will drop you off at Penn Station which is less than 10 blocks away from the theater.
It will cost you like 10.00 total.

I agree with this. We did it last year from JFK and it was effortless. I remember it costing less than $10

Now... anyone got any good strategies on getting from LaGuardia to UCB on Friday afternoon? Or wanna split a cab (I get in at 2:15PM)?

Jesse! (Can't wait to see you) LGA is a much cheaper fare--no flat rate, just metered. I don't know if that makes any difference. And Supershuttle is around $15; it takes a bit longer because you're sharing with 5 or 6 other passengers, but they show up every 20-30 minutes and you book them in baggage claim.

If no one bites, just thought you ought to know that MTA provides a wonderful service by way of their A train. The ride from Howard Beach-JFK Airport to 34th Street-Penn Station should time around an hour give or take at that hour. Transferring to the local C or E trains at 14th Street with take you to 23rd Street, closed to UCB Theatre. The cost? Two dollars.

The LIRR will be a lot faster and I believe it only costs 3.00 from Jamaica to Penn Station. It probably will take 30-45 min to get into the city. The ride on the LIRR is 5 min, the Air-tran from the terminal to the trainis about 15-20 tops, the extra time is transfer time.

YAY!

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!

I'm so stoked... !

We get into JFK at 11:55pm on Thursday, and it was recommended to us to take a cab (it costs about $45, apparently).

But, I also got great directions via MTA (seem pretty simple) from the woman who owns the hostel that Ana is staying at...

Jesse, you should call Ana's phone when you get in (my phone gets sketchy service & costs a lot of $$)... we would love to meet up w/y'all to go to the opening thingie... !! YAY!

YAY DCM!!

From the Manhattan Hostel Web site (where we are staying, Ryan):

FROM JFK AIRPORT:
Take the AirTrain (Fare: $5) to Sutphin Station, Jamaica. Take the E train to Manhattan (Fare: $2.00) and get off at 34 St / Penn Station.

Alternatively, you can take the New York Airport Service Express Bus (718-875-8200) to Midtown Manhattan / West Side. Fare is $13. Every 15 -30 minutes (6:15 AM - 11:10 PM).

You can simply hail a cab or car service into the city. Note: Flat rate is $45 + (toll fees) + tips.

From me:

I can't wait to see people!! I will hopefully be spending the opening ritual in the UCB Theatre, watching the hosts tap dance while waiting for the crowd to arrive with the suggestion as I have during DCM 5, 6, and 8.

I'm sure you all know this, but don't hail a car service (a non-yellow cab). The guys with the car-service stickers on their cars (or none at all) should not be soliciting rides at the airport, but will try to. They are not always reliable with respect to competency and price.

All the airports have legit yellow taxi stands as well as the shuttle-bus services - either SuperShuttle or the regular bus-type shuttles - that can drop you at Penn Station (I forget the name, they always change).

If anyone wants to break down and call a car service, try the Dial 7 people (212-777-7777) who will track and meet your flight and you coordinate with them when you are ready to leave. Slightly pricier.

(once again...I stress...if you take the subway instead of the LIRR you will save $1.00 but will gain an hour on your travel time.)

I was gonna say this but I would say get off at a125th street & st Nicolas Ave and transfer to the AC....you can get the express that way. and gets you closer to the UCB.

I have taken the M60 from LaGuardia a couple of time and it is farily easy and cheap..
