The Brian Lerher show recently had a guest who talked about the near record levels of corruption and influence in the city government now. Mostly surrounding real estate development. I look at the highrises suddenly popping up everywhere right in the middle of residential or mixed use neighborhoods, and the number of construction accidents and it makes my stomach turn.

I for one am glad the real estate boom is collapsing.

If you look closely at all the new construction pay attention to the extensive use of cinder block -- CINDER BLOCK! Expect lots more devestation where this came from - plus they all have crappy insulation. Bloomberg is going to get nailed on all this...someone, somewhere, will pin this back to his office being irresponsible. Its like the division of child welfare when social workers miss children and one gets brutally abused.

Even in the safest of conditions, construction is a dangerous business. There will always be accidents.

However, rising costs will increase the use of cheaper, lower quality materials, which always causes problems.
