I think there are lots of words I probably mispronounce because I only ever read them or write them but never or rarely use them conversationally.

I've also always tended to think that people who misspell (is that how you spell misspell?) are just spelling logically, whereas the spelling of the English language isn't logical.

Spelling, grammar and usage go together like peanut butter, bananas and bacon.

You can't fight it.

Now, should there have been a comma after "grammar" and "bananas?" Youse decide!

How about when people say, "try and" instead of "try to".
That's wrong, right?

Heart taught me to say Try to as in:

"But try to understand, try to understand
Try try try to understand He’s a magic man"

... however, I don't know that Heart is the end all be all of English usage.

How is that redundant when "but" is used as a conjunction?
Fine. You win this time, Evil Marian.

You caught me. It just bugs me.

Like when people say "needless to say" and then go on to tell you.

Fine. I am not a grammar and spelling Nazi; I am, simply, a curmudgeon.

The reason why people often make mistakes here is that as far as I know their isn't any spell or grammar check buttons here at this website. I don't know why that is, but I think their should be at least a spell check button on The IRC. I know it would certainly cut down all of the spelling mistakes made on some of the posts.

It bugs me when people interchange "try to" and "try and."

They do not mean the same thing. "Try and cook" implies two separate intentions. "Try to cook" implies a single attempt.

That's something that bothers me. Or am I mistaken?

It's okay to pronounce it "should of," as long as you know that you spell it "should have." To say "I should of been there" make no sense. Thank you.

To Make is one of those verbs where, when used in the third person singular, you'll want to add an S to the end of it. Give it a try, It makes no sense. It is tricky. I Make, You Make, He/She/It Makes.
