Hey IRC-

Does anybody have an external laptop CD-ROM drive? Like one of those ones that connects via a card you slide into the computer. Long story short, the outmodedness of my laptop is preventing me from getting my new iPod working, and it sits in the corner and mocks me with its emptiness. I need the CD-ROM drive just long enough to install Windows XP so's I can get iTunes. I would love you forever if I could borrow your drive for a day. Naturally I would pick it up and drop it off at your location or wherever's convenient.

It could conceivably also be USB, just as long as it's USB 1.1, not USB 2.0. Oooold computer.

Thanks + love.

Careful, your computer might be too old to run win xp without having a load of problems. Those external CD drives are pretty cheap though, buy one from CompUSA and return it when you're done. Look around on the internet too, some people wrote some good mp3/iPod compatible programs that don't need win XP.

Oh and one more thing.....

get a Mac!

Tru dat. You need a minimum of 256 MB of RAM to run XP. I doubt a laptop without a CD-ROM drive would have that much RAM.

USB 2.0 is 100% backward-compatible with original USB, so you don't need to worry which USB flavor you get.

CD rom problem solved.

That said, anyone have a windows 2000 CD they could let me borrow, or know of anywhere that sells used software?
