The Workshop

Explore improv's roots and take advantage of this rare opportunity to study Commedia Del Arte with one of the world's most accomplished experts.

Students will learn and practice the stock characters through mask work, character study and status games.

This workshop is 3 hours long and will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 7-10 at the Players Theatre in the West Village.

Daniel Passer's Extremely Impressive Bio

Daniel Passer has taught Commedia dell’Arte, Clown, Improvisation, Viewpoints, Shakespeare and Acting at Harvard, Brown, Cornell, University of Alaska, CalArts, Trinity College, The Second City, Bang, Improv Underground and The Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He is the Master Teacher for the National Foundation for Advancement of the Arts and The Edward Albee Theatre Festival.

He received his formal training at the American Repertory Theatre Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University and trained in Viewpoints under Anne Bogart and Tina Landau and Commedia dell’Arte under Teatro Piccolo’s Ferruchio Soleri.

Recently, Daniel was one of the lead clowns for Cirque du Soleil’s Banana Shpeel and Franco Dragone’s “Le Reve” at the Wynn in Las Vegas. He played the Lover in The Dreamplay, a site-specific workshop directed by Tracy Young, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Marlowe in She Stoops to Conquer at Shakespeare Santa Cruz and directed The Courtyard at U.S.C.’s Artsfest (featuring members of Cirque du Soleil and De La Guarda).

Other Theatre Credits include: The title character in The Servant of Two Masters (Bergamot Station), The Imaginary Invalid (The Actors’ Gang), Chicago Conspiracy Trial, Macbeth and Rameau’s Nephew (Odyssey Theatre, Anthony and Cleapatra and Julius Caesar (Shakespeare Santa Cruz), Six Degrees of Separation and Young Man From Atlanta (L.A. Theatreworks), and several plays at the American Repertory Theatre. Television Credits include: Monk, King of Queens, Providence, Grounded for Life, Tracy Takes On, and News Radio. Films include: Danny Roane, First Time Director, Music from Another Room, Almost Heroes, and Ted, an award winning independent film that he also co-wrote and associate produced. Daniel is on the national advisory boards of the Edward Albee Theatre Festival and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts.

He was the U.S. Representative at the International Commedia dell’Arte Festival in Italy and is a graduate of the A.R.T. Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard and U.C. Berkeley(Phi Beta Kappa).

Daniel got called up to work on his next big show, so we had to move the workshop to next thursday, November 18, from 7-10. Still awesome.
