Color controls disabled in PowerDVD

I got a DVD drive from LG. It didn't come with any software of its own. DVD movies play in PowerDVD, but it won't let me change the color controls. I need to do this because the movies are too dark. Adjusting the monitor's brightness doesn't help enough. When I played an .mpg from my hard drive, the color controls worked. Windows Movie Maker says:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection.

RealPlayer (RealOne) says:
The DVD cannot be played. Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed.

I tried the same movies on my dad's computer (with PowerDVD). The color controls worked fine. I am thinking that I need to get the right software for my drive. (PowerDVD came with my dad's drive.) Does anyone know what I need?
