The Chicago Improv Festival is trying something new this year. We are excited to announce the Improv on Screen category for this year's festival. We are asking people to submit improvised short films that may be presented during the festival at a special screening. The Improv on Screen category will be curated by Ted Tremper. Films must be submitted by January 31st.

To be considered, your video should be a live action improvised narrative fiction told through the medium of video.

  • Maximum length: 6 minutes
  • Requirements: Your Submission must be an original live action short narrative video that exemplifies the art of improvisational storytelling. While the plot or story may be outlined or "tent-poled," there may not be a single word of dialogue written for the project (unless it is being read by an actor within the context of the scene). Submissions may come from, but are not limited to, the following genres: comedy, action, drama, musical, horror, etc. Your submission should be a complete story that is presented in a clear, creative, and original way.
  • Judging considerations: We are looking for creative excellence in videos that push the boundaries of improvisational narrative filmmaking and storytelling.
  • The submissions should come in the form of a video link to the video piece with the ability to provide a hi-res version via data DVD or FTP upload if accepted.
For more information about how to submit your video, please go to our main website and read the details there. Then fill out the very short submission form. The submission fee for this category is only $5.
