cheap NYC weddings?

#1
This is probably a first in the world of IRC pleas:

Does anyone know of a NY-Metro-Area (NJ is OK) locale that can accomidate 100 folks for a wedding that is incredibly cheap, yet not a craphole? It doesn't have to include catering, but if it does great. Oh, and if you know cheap caterers, too, that would also rock.

I'm not really expecting many hits on this, but I figured what the hell...

Thanks, IRC!!

I was fortunate enough to use donated space in a friend's home (lucky me!) However I managed to comparison-shop for food and saved money by making a few choices on the time and type of wedding.

I did an afternoon, kind of tea sandwich/hors d'oerve (sp?) thing for 50.

- Turns out that while the pastry at Payard Patisserie was exorbitant (I didn't get my cake there), the actual food was really pretty reasonable. I got tea sandwiches, open faced caviar and fancy sandwiches, and hot poufy things at amazing prices.

- I skipped the "wedding cake factories" and went to a local bakery (Black Hound in the East Village) and had them customize a couple of their gorgeous cakes into a wedding cake for 50 people.

- Comparison shopped for good (not the priciest) champagne and bought cases of it, served that and sparkly water.

- Rented glassware and plates and stuff.

- Got bags (literally) of one type of fresh flower (purple and white lilacs) at Union Square Greenmarket and arranged them at the reception. Splurged on my Martha-Stewart looking bouquet, though.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via the boards or at mir777 at earthlink dot net. Hope this helps a little.

- Michelle

There's a place in Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow that was really nice. I can't remember the name of it but it sits up in the mountains and is really nice. I believe it was reasonably priced as well.
