Can I disable images and show alt text instead?

I don't mean just having a transparent box there instead, I mean having nothing there, or just a url.

Some images are too wide for the screen, and if I go to print that thread, the words go off the page. I want to disable the image so that the words stay on the page.

How do I do that? (It's not the "disable images" button in the multimedia section of the advanced tab on my internet options menu in my browser toolbar. That's not the one. That one just turns images into a transparent box.)

Thanks,
me

You could download Mozilla from mozilla.org. I would not recommend the Firebird edition of it, because mine is broken. I think that mozilla does not show the transparent box.

Alternately, you could open the page source in MS Word, do a find/replace with the "use wildcards" box checked, enter "<img*/*/" in the "Find what" box, nothing in the "Replace with" box, and click "Replace All." Then, open the file in a browser. No image tags.
