Batting cages in NYC

#1
Hey Cats and Kittens,

I'm looking for a really kick ass batting cage in the city. Does anyone out there have any recommendations?

there are so few..chelsea piers is a rip off and they never have bats, and often the whole cage will be rented out to teams or leagues. there is some place on the UWS that you can rent pretty cheaply by the hour, but its still expensive...only worth it if ya got a few people to chip in....i say go to long island

In the Bronx, there's a decent outdoor cage at Turtle Cove (take 5 train to Pelham Parkway and then take the Bx12 bus towards City Island). They also have mini-golf, or putt-putt, as it were.

Otherwise? Hit the outer suburbs, either Westchester or the Island, and look for Frozen Ropes - you'll have to rent a cage for an hour, but if you're doing it with someone, it's kinda awesome.

These are ok. Decent price and decent availability...some of the cages don't have enough room for a long follow-through.

I like the ones on Randall's Island. They're a bit more expensive than Astoria, a bit cheaper than Chelsea Piers but the sub-urban type. You know, where the machines are located down below in the middle and you can kind of see where the ball's path may go (the cages at Chelsea Piers and Astoria are just rectangular).

I've been to the Astoria Sports Complex Batting Cages. It was years ago but they're still around.

Personally, it's not cheap for a small amount of time, but it's what you gotta do to satisfy the fix. I got blisters in only 10 minutes.
