How do I get a picture small enough to use as my avatar. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm not even sure how to check the size of an image. Is that bad? I'd like to use maybe a digital photo I have or a gif file...but everytime I try it, it's TOO big. Please help! Thanks.

the simple way I did it was to put the picture in paint and then go to stretch/skew and change the image to 60% horizontal & vertical (or whatver % gets the size you want) just make sure both hoz & vert are the same or it will skew the pic
and then check attributes where it will tell you the size of the pic (in pxels I believe) so you can check them against the IRC specs

It's gotta be 65 x 65 pixels. Crop it so you have all the imagery you want, and set the bigger dimension of the image to 65. Also, I recommend converting it to a GIF to make it small enough, which is usually an option under the File menu, or an option of File Type when you click "Save As".

If it's a gif and it's 65 by 65 or less, it will be small enough. Sometimes jpg's of that size can be too large. Also, animated gifs can be too large at that dimension. I think the file size has be less than 10K.
