Anybody have an apartment or sublet?

Hello New York,

I'm Porter Mason. I left you last June. As some of you may have heard, I am moving back. Soon. As it turns out, much sooner than I thought. I'll be back in town April 1st. (Fear not, there will be no Porter Mason Victory Redux Tour.)

I'll need to find an apartment. I'm making plans to stay with friends for a while, while I look, but still... I'll eventually need to find one of my own.

So, anyone have any apartments or sublets? I'm looking for either something long-term, like your lease is running out and you need someone to take it over, or a sublet for one month or two, while I look for a real place to live.

For long term, I'm looking in Brooklyn, and in Williamsburg or Carroll Gardens in particular. For short-term, I don't really care where it is.

Anyway, I'm beginning this search, so I figured I'd put the word out on the ol' IRC.

Thanks, New York. And I'll be seein' you soon.

Love,
Porter

I'll have a big, beautiful, quiet studio in Inwood available sometime in late May or June. Pre-war, hardwood floors, 4th floor corner unit--so it it gets lots of light. Separate entrance foyer and kitchen, full bath. Three closets. Laundry in building. A/C. Away from the street. Huge tree outside fire escape, with a squirrel's nest (the tree not the fire escape). All services and a Gristedes, a Rite-Aid, and a HUGE discount liquor/wine outlet around the corner. It would be a 1+ year sublet, with the option to take over the lease in July 2005. One minute from the A train, rent-stabilized, $800, pets okay.

If you're not interested, pass it on (or anyone else who reads this can pass it on too).

Dani, just out of curiousity...is Inwood safe? I have only been up there a few times and haven't really gotten a sense of it.

I can offer a room, short-term definitely, maybe long-term too. It's the smaller room in a two-bedroom, in the Kensington neighborhood of Brooklyn (Fort Hamilton Parkway on the F line, Church Ave. on the Q). Spacious place with chef's kitchen and big movie projector and screen. And a sweet kitty. I'd charge $600. It would take a little shuffling around (I'm using the second bedroom as a study now) but wouldn't be too hard. And I should have DSL soon.

I'm still looking too, so I'm a-glomming off these. I saw a few apartments this weekend that included a veritable cavalcade of cats (like 14 of them between 4 places!). If anybody knows something in queens, brooklyn or manhattan with a good sized bedroom (i.e. bigger than just a bed, I need room to geek out) let me know and I shall bring my mad cooking skillz plus a real dance dance revolution hard pad (not the soft sissy shit either). OMG I hope that wasn't a deal breaker!

There are apts in my building for rent. Cobble Hill, near the Bergen stop on the F and all trains at Boro Hall. The rents are, I think, 1100-1200 for a pretty spacious one bedroom. Let me know if you're interested and I will give you my landlord's info.

Room For Rent

I have a room for rent in a spacious, sunny 2BR. Technically available May 1st, but you could move in as early as April 16th.

$700/month includes utilities, digital cable, and DSL internet. The place is on Roosevelt Island (borough of Manhattan, on the F line). RI has many parks (with BBQ grills), restaraunts, and river walks. It's safe; my friends and I play Lazer Tag late at night. There's a full-sized, suburban style grocery store, post office, two banks.

The bedroom is AC'd, has a large closet, recent paint job. Unfurnished, but my current roommate will leave his bed if you want it (otherwise he'll throw it out). We'll share a large kitchen and living room. The shower water pressure is great and hot water never runs out. The building has elevators and laundry (plenty of machines).

I'm a mid-20s male, working in video and new media, with a background in theater and the arts.

Mail inkling AT speakeasy DOT org if you want to talk more or check it out.

Hooray!

That's all. I'm not offering any help or anything. Just, you know, hooray.
But Jeff, It would be nice though if you were to offer Porter you wife Tracy's services. Maybe she can help him find a place to live in New York City.

Catz, Not unless Tracy finds him a place first. There's no reason why both of you and Tracy can help him out because you never know who's listings he might like better, yours or Tracy's. So when's the last time you posted a thread titled,"Let me find you a place to live?"

Er...thanks, Reenie. Tracey is very grateful to Joe for his advice when she was getting into real estate, and wouldn't dream of stepping on his turf.

That being said, I'll undermine both Joe and my wife by forwarding this random email that was forwarded to me:

I think it's safe. West of Broadway is better, which is where I am. I feel safer here than I did when I lived in Hamilton Heights or Marble Hill. Plus, the A train is decent.
