Apologies if this isn't the right section to ask this in, am probably going to try and post in a couple of others too. Apologies also if this isn't really site etiquette: I'm sure an angry mod will intervene to show the hand if this is the case.
My name's James Ross and I run a (mostly but not exclusively) short-form group in east London, UK, called Fat Kitten Improv. We've been going about three years, with allowances for changes in personnel etc. For the last two we've taken a show called Fat Kitten vs the World to the Edinburgh festival: it's a short-form games group vs group friendly competition kind of thing, with a different guest group in each night. Last year we had our first internationals in, Parallelogramophonograph from Austin, and they were super, so I'm casting about to see if there are any other groups that will be doing shows in Edinburgh in August 2012 that would fancy joining us? Am keen to make sure it's genuinely "Fat Kitten vs the World" rather than just "Fat Kitten vs the South East of England".
We've had completely full houses or very very near every night we've done the show (any Edinburgh fringe veterans will know this is something of a rarity) and put a lot of effort into pushing it (much less of a rarity) and some absolutely lovely crowds. The format's easily graspable by anyone who's done or seen Comedysportz/Theatresports. The demands on any group wanting to do the show are very small: you just need to tip up 30-45 minutes before we go on for a warm-up/chat etc and be there at the end to hand out your flyers.
We're part of the PBH Free Fringe, which operates by what I think Americans would probably call a "bucket system" (i.e. audience donations rather than ticket prices) which we use to cover costs: as such there's no cash in it for other groups (though we will buy you beer), but there is the opportunity to play to c100 people to give them a sample of your show and flyer afterwards. A lot of the groups who've done it with us in the past have noticed a distinct upward spike in attendances for the few days after doing it.
If you're EVEN SLIGHTLY INTERESTED or KNOW ANY GROUPS WHO ARE EVEN SLIGHTLY THINKING ABOUT COMING TO EDINBURGH IN 2012 please drop me a message here or at
contact@fatkittenimprov.com. Any and all questions answered.
Woo/yay,
James
