10000 character limit? Not counting correctly

I'm sure it's user error.

I have had problems in my journal where I type the perfect entry. I then do something stupid & erase & there is no undo button.

So I started creating my entries in word. I then paste into my journal, but it's telling me there are over 10,000 characters.

I did a word count in word & it was around 3,000 characters.

But my entry said different.

I post with my "exactly 10,000" character posting. But I was able to EDIT the post.

an example is my last posting in my off-topic journal. It told me I had 12,000 characters. Looking at it, I don't think it's possible.

Is it something with the paste function, or am I just a dork?

is there any way around that? like creating in notebook instead with no formatting? Or not having the wysiwyg option turned on... (duh, that was an option I turned on wasn't it??)

still, there is a debate if it's just me, the dork.

I doubt it Deb. I see similar problems with the PM engine. If I type an obscenely long PM, and try to do a "preview message" I get the "over 1000 character" message. But sometimes, if its just long (bot not excessively so) I can preview the message but when I got to post it I get the "Over 1000 character" error. I still say something is buggered in the counting. Either it's counting the HTML for one and not the other (preview vs. post), or including the title, or ???. But I'd bet even money that the same routine is being used in both places, and screwing up in both places.

You know what? I think you're right. I was writing a PM that was definitely not 1000 characters, but I kept getting that. And the count they were giving me was insane. Not possible.

I've been having this problem myself, and I don't even know what the heck WYSIWYG is.

I HAVE noticed that the counter hates any kind of smilies whatsoever. If you use any sort of smilie, it penalizes you by counting it as ohhh something like ten or twenty chars.

Perhaps smilies are WYSIWYG, I have no clue. All I know is that my posts are now shorter, and sending PM's is an absolute nightmare. I have difficulty thinking in so few words.

10,000 character limit problem

Just wondering about this and if it will be fixed. I type everything in Word before posting and the character counts aren't even close. I constantly get kicked out of my message because it says it's over 10K, but when I get the count in Word - it's off by thousands.

??? Is it something that I'm doing wrong? A setting or something? I'm not usually a complainer, but this is very frustrating.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that based on the feedback from this forum that it will be fixed in newer versions of this board. As soon as I have time to update the software, I will.

It may still not gel with the way Word counts characters exactly, but it should eliminate the double check problems where it would tell you have less than 10000 characters and then not accept the post.
