This class is all about finding your voice. Stand-ups understand the value of this, but for some reason improvisers don't acknowledge it's just as important in improv. Finding your voice means finding the specific and unique style of improv that comes from both your strengths as a performer and interests as a human being. Once you find it, you will be able to say/do anything in your own way and it will be much easier to have fun doing improv. Think of your favorite improviser - I bet they have a voice you can describe in two adjectives. And they always seem to have fun. That can be you too!
This class explores ways of finding your voice, including reducing overly polite tendencies and playing scenes from your own personal (sometimes crazy) beliefs and areas of expertise. Students will perform different and challenging exercises meant to shake up comfort zones and ensure you're never someone's blank canvas again. And both you and your scene partner will be happier for it. It may seem wrong, but it's oh so right.
