So simple to say but so easy to neglect... Recently I've noticed that the only real difference between an okay show and a great show is taking the time up top to really check in and make eye contact with each of your team mates after receiving a suggestion. This being especially important when your in a mono scene team I think.

I don't often get all hippy dippy with my improv theory (I'm a big believer of just going out there and having fun). But this is so important and it was...

It has happened to everyone. The lights go down, you could hear a pin drop, your 25 min show went on for 35 minutes because the guy in the tech booth could not for the life of him find a good blackout line. Your... show... SUCKED. And you SUCK by association. And your group sucks, and improv is a sucky corny thing to do with your spare time.

All you want to do is run away and hide back stage and never talk to anyone again. Or all you want to do is sympathize with your coach and...

Throw "Game" out the window

(Wow first blog entry in a long long time. But I had to get this one off my chest.)

Trying to find a "game" in an improv scene always felt forced and unnatural to me. I was given advice by teachers and coaches to "follow the first unusual thing". I found that more often than not scene partners of teams I was on would disagree on what the unusual thing actually was. This would lead to scenes that wouldn't go anywhere or instantly lose any grounding in reality...

i just had a self congratulatory reflection:

My very first long form debut in a felstival was at DCM this year!
Fletcher (went GREAT)
The Moops (was awesome)

followed by Philly with:
Fletcher (WOW - good review)
RHOP (was INCREDIBLE)
Adrift (was also AWESOME)
and some short form for good measure with N Crowd (um, this happended - but our set...
